The Pit Bull the name immediately strikes our mind as a dog of power, passion, and undying willingness. The brick-like head, which is especially broad between the cheeks which is to place the powerful jaws. It’s carried upon a thick muscled, well-defined neck. And then the neck runs into a deep, thick, well-sprung chest. These types of dogs are very muscular, stocky, yet agile which is extremely strong for its size. The ears are cropped, the eyes are round. The teeth must be in the form of a scissors bite. Its coat is made up of thick, short, shiny hair. The tail tapers to a point.
These dogs are as strong pleasure to please. These dogs are so friendly which means these dogs are not people-haters or people-eaters. Their natural aggressive tendencies are only towards the other dogs and animals, but not the people. However, dog aggression can be avoided with proper socialization. If they are properly socialized with a firm, calm, confident, consistent pack leader, they will not even be aggressive with them. These dog varieties are good-natured, amusing, extremely loyal and affectionate family pet, which is good with children and adults. And almost always obedient, and also it is always eager to please its master. This is an extremely courageous and intelligent guard dog that is very full of vitality. They are highly protective for their owners and their owner’s property; they will fight against an enemy until to death. They are usually very friendly, but they have an uncanny ability to know when they need to protect and also to know when everything is okay. These dogs are willful with meek owners and needs a firm hand.
These dogs are generally normal with other pets if they are raised with them from their puppy hood. They are very friendly, but not recommended for most people, since most of the people do not know how to treat a dog. Problems arises when one does not know the psychology of the dogs, On seeing that the dogs are having emotions of an human and thus it ends up with a dog who thinks he is the boss of the house. These dogs are excellent with children in the family; they have a high pain tolerance and will happily put up with rough child who is playing this kind of breed. These dogs are used as all around working farm dogs; as they are referred to as “the poor mans horse”. Later in years they are used as fighting dogs. The normal training, along with the proper amount of exercise makes up a firm pack leader, and thus it produces a very obedient dog. They are well trained during their puppy hood itself for combat aggressive tendencies and to keep the dog under control when other dogs are present. The people must train the dog such that it heels beside or behind them while walking. These dogs are given the outstanding results as a guardian of property, but are at the same time they are termed as a companion dog.
When these dogs are properly trained and socialized to the environment, these dogs prove themselves to be the very good dog and a great companion to the family.
PIT BULL HEIGHT & WEIGHT:
The normal Height of the pit bull breed is considered to be14-24 inches (35-60 cm.) and they weigh from 22-78 pounds (10-35 kg.) These types of breeds are both powerful and agile in nature. Actual weight and height are comparatively less when compared to the correct proportion of weight to height of these breed.
This is generally a healthy breed, although some of them are subjected to hip dysphasia, hereditary cataracts, allergies to grass and congenital heart disease. These are some of the disease caused to the breeds rather than the healthy ones.
These types of dogs go okay with living in an apartment, only if it is sufficiently exercised. They are very active indoors and will be alright even without a yard provided to them, where they get enough exercise. They mostly prefers warm climates.
EXERCISING YOUR PIT BULL:
These dogs must have plenty of regular exercise and they must be taken to long daily walks. Other exercises include weight pulling, running, fetch, dog jumping, schutzhund, as well as a number of other dog sports.
LIFE SPAN OF THE BREED:
Their life span is only around 14-16 years only under a condition of good health. However some American Pit Bulls live as long as 19 years of age.
The smooth, short-haired coats of these dogs are very easy to groom. They should be brushed regularly with a firm bristle brush, and they should be showered or dry shampoo as a when necessary. They are rubbed with a piece of toweling or chamois that makes the coat gleam.

Hunting that has been sweeping the U.S. The media, however, should not go unmentioned, for it is also responsible for escalating isolated incidences in a relentless and attention-getting way. In a lot of cases when the media is reporting about a Pit Bull attacking, it is indeed not even a Pit Bull at all, but a mixed breed of some sort, or another bull breed all together. An example, there was a report on KYW news in Philadelphia about two Pit Bulls attacking a person. The dogs did not look like Pit Bulls, but rather Boxer mix looking dogs.
HISTORY OF PITS:
Although pit bulls were all created with similar crossbreeding between bulldogs and terriers, each individual breed within the type has a distinct history.
The Humane Society estimates that there are over 79.2 million owned dogs in the United States; however, the number of pit bull-type dogs has not been reliably determined.
