The Doberman Pinscher is a muscular, compactly built and well-proportioned easily distinguishable from other dog breeds. Robust aristocratic appearance, athletic body, vigorous gait and extraordinary agility are some of its innate characteristics. The Doberman Pinscher is an ever vigilant guardian, always alert and ready to protect its master and his family or home.
History of the Doberman Pinscher
It is difficult to definitively explain its ancestry, but it is reportedly a mixture of many breeds, including the Rottweiler, Black and Tan Terrier, and German Pinscher. The Doberman Pinscher has a somewhat fascinating history.
It is was learned that there was a tax collector named Louis Doberman, in the town of Apolda, in the Thuringia district of Germany. His job of collecting money was perilous as there were dacoits in the area who would assault him when he made his rounds.
Interestingly, Louis Dobermann was also the town dog catcher and he was often accompanied by a dog that zealously protected him. This spurred Louis Dobermann to start breeding dogs with the idea of developing a loyal and alert watchdog. The result of these breeding experiments led to the early Doberman Pinscher.
Unfortunately, no proper records are available and hence it is not clear what dogs Louis Dobermann used to create the breed – though it is widely believed that the Rottweiler, German Pinscher, and Black and Tan Terrier are part of the mix. The Doberman dog first surfaced in 1876 and ever since he has remained a favorite with many dog lovers.
